Elon Musk's xAI Announces Early Access for Premium Plus Customers to Chatbot Grok

Elon Musk, the founder and CEO of xAI, a startup AI company with a goal to understand the true nature of the universe, has announced that customers subscribed to the Premium Plus package of X will have early access to the xAI chatbot, Grok, once it exits the initial beta phase. Grok is an AI model capable of answering questions in a conversational manner, potentially referencing a knowledge base similar to those used to train ChatGPT and other text-generation models (such as Meta). Grok also has the ability to browse the internet, enabling it to search for the latest information on specific topics online.

Musk shared some conversation screenshots with Grok on X and confirmed that the chatbot's responses would be humorously infused in Musk's style. The CEO also praised its capabilities compared to competitors, tweeting, "Grok has real-time access to information via the X platform, which is a significant advantage compared to other models." There is no public timeline for when Grok will exit beta, but Musk stated that it will be "available to all X Premium+ customers" when it does. The recently launched X Premium Plus package costs $16 per month and provides ad-free access to X.

This announcement coincides with the first developer conference of rival company OpenAI, which was co-founded by Musk and where he remained on the board until 2018, taking place on November 6th. OpenAI's ChatGPT is available for $20 per month. Musk's xAI AI chatbot will be released to Premium+ X customers after it exits beta, as the CEO tweeted. He also shared conversation screenshots with the AI, mentioning that Grok is designed to have humorous responses and has real-time access to information from X.
